Compassion in India

During 5 Minutes for Mom's Ultimate Blog Party 2009, I ran across Robin's blog, Pensieve. Her party post stood out from the others for one simple reason. It wasn't about her. Robin wrote about her upcoming blogging trip with Compassion International. She shared her heart, and as I read, my heart was touched.

You see, in 2002, my husband and I started sponsoring a little girl in Indonesia through Compassion. We knew it was something that God put on our heart to do. We chose a precious two year old with dark hair and brown eyes. She and I shared the same birthday, and Indonesia was special to us because Phil's brother was working there at the time.

A few years later, we received a letter from the family. The little girl's father had finally found work that would support the family. They graciously thanked us for our support, and released us from that commitment since it was no longer needed. That is when Meify entered our lives.

Meify is another little girl from Indonesia. She is almost twelve years old, and she and her family benefit greatly from the work that Compassion does in her community. Through Compassion, Meify receives Bible teaching, medical care, nutritional food, education, and scholastic materials. We receive letters from Meify on a regular basis, updating us on her life and always thanking us for our support. Even though we have never met her, we are grateful that we can in a small way be part of her life.

As I write this post, Robin and four other bloggers are in India. I encourage you to pay a visit to Robin's blog this week, as she writes about India and Compassion's work there. I am sure it will touch your heart, just like it touched mine. There are two posts so far:

Old men, little boys, and Mama T (posted April 26)

and

Pride and prejudice (posted today)

If you would like to sponsor a child from India, just click the Compassion button on my sidebar.
